Associa, the industry’s leading community management company, testified in opposition to Florida Senate Bill (SB) 722 in a hearing of the Senate Regulated Industries Committee in Tallahassee.   The bill, if it becomes law, would add unnecessary government regulation and could lead to higher fees for homeowners living in planned communities, which currently includes more than nine million Floridians.

California Condos: It's Time to Consider FHA Approval

Changes to pre-sale disclosure packets in California become effective in July and will require all California condominiums to disclose to potential buyers if the condo association is approved for mortgages backed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or by the Veterans Administration (VA).

The Stakes are High as the Priority Lien Law Battle in Nevada Heats Up

What happens when a unit owner in an association doesn’t or can’t pay their assessments?

This question was at the core of an epic debate in the Nevada Assembly this year. Nevada, like more than 21 other states, has what is called a “Super-Priority Lien” law. The law requires that in the event of a foreclosure the first party to get paid money owed is the association. Such laws were passed to help protect the finances of associations who maintain community amenities, services, insurance and property which enhance the value of all units in the community.
